Bengali Babu English Mem Bangla Movie Full Movie Watch Online
Bangali Babu English Mem is a romantic, Drama, Family kolkata bengali movie, directed by Manas Basu, starring soham, mim, Tina, Lama along with others.
Bangali babu Madhusudan Dutta’s only dream is to marry a Canadian mem and bring her back home as a trophy of his achievement. To realize his dream, he takes off to Canada. Aspiring fashion designer Ria, too, is all set to pursue a diploma course there. Madhusudan and Ria keep bumping into each other…
If Bollywood does, can Tollywood be far behind? Of course, not! This time around, director Ravi Kinagi takes a step further and seeks inspiration from a Punjabi romantic comedy, Jatt and Juliet, which he has delightfully garnished with a generous sprinkling of Hum Tum, a slice of Aa Ab Laut Chalen and a dash of Na Tum Jaano Na Hum. And there you go… The cocktail is ready to be served — Tolly ishtyle!
Madhusudan Dutta (Soham) or Madhu, as his friends lovingly call him, first meets Ria (Mimi) at the immigration office in Kolkata. Madhu, who doesn’t know ABC of English, requests Ria to help him fill in his forms. They meet again at the airport and Madhu bores Ria with his chit-chat all the way to Canada. They end up fighting and swear never to cross each other’s paths ever. But as luck would have it, both land up at the same place as tenants. Meanwhile, Ria joins her classes, while Madhu lands the job of a cook at a Bengali restaurant.
One day, Jenny, a Canadian girl, arrives at Ria and Madhu’s apartment, who turns out to be their landlady Kathy’s (Saswati Guha Thakurata) step-daughter. Ria asks Madhu to propose Jenny for marriage. All hell breaks loose when Madhu figures that Jenny has to go to Africa. Madhu dumps her. Kathy throws both of them out. Next, Madhu finds Ria working as a chef at the same restaurant.
Days go by… With time, Ria and Madhu come closer, but both refuse to admit it. Here comes a twist in the tale. Enter Captain Vikram (surprise, surprise!), Ria’s fiance, who now wants to take Ria back home. What happens next? Will Ria and Madhu, ultimately, find love? Well, that’s for you to find out.
Performance-wise, both Soham and Mimi have done a fine job. With his innocent and childlike face, Soham pulls off his comic stances well, but falters a bit in the emotional scenes. And sadly when he tries to shake a leg, one can only recall Sunny Deol at his best. Remember those ‘earth-shattering steps’ in the song Yaara o yaara from Jeet? Mimi, on the other hand, looks pretty as usual, prancing around the streets of Vancouver in stylish attires. No doubt the girl can act, but she too needs to hone her dancing skills a bit. Senior actors like Biswajit Chakraborty, Laboni Sarkar and Saswati Guha Thakurata add their bit to the story.
However, there are a few discrepancies in the plot — a few explained in haste, later. For example, how could someone, who hasn’t even cleared his Class X exams, get a visa for Canada so easily? And not only that, he bags a job, an accommodation and also manages to woo a Canadian girl with equal ease.
The best part about the film is its dialogues. The way Madhu confidently converses in wrong English is hilarious. The humour appeals to all and comes across as a breath of fresh air amidst parts of boredom. The first half drags a lot.
Music by Dabbu and Rishi Chanda is a mixed bag. The song Honey bunny is catchy, while one can hum along with Hawara chupi chupi. The rest is just about average.
True, that almost every film has cliches. But then, trying to make biryani out of khichdi, literally, is no mean feat. Bangali Babu English Mem is worth a dekko.
