Movie Review: Sujit Mondal tries to hammer a point — love is responsibility, family is of utmost importance. Coming from a broken family, a child might have to face embarrassing questions: "Jar baba mayer somporker kono bondhon nei, tader chhele somporker bondhon ki bujhbe?" even if he professes his love for his beloved: "Tumi amar na paoar modhye onekta paoa".
Siddhartha Roy aka Sidhu (Dev) has a heart of gold. Even though this "Ladykiller Romeo" might croon, "Sunday dilam Sheila ke, Monday dilam Mona ke", he nurses a deep wound in his heart. His parents (Labony and Sabyasachi) are separated. Sidhu finds happiness in Pooja's (Subhashree) company and the two plan to get married. The marriage is possible only and only if Sidhu can bring his parents together again. The love birds rack their brains and come up with one plan after another till Sidhu's words, "Poristhiti control e thake na, bhalobasha control e thake" make sense to his industrialist dad. His pleas, "Tomra tomader bhalobasha bhag koro, amake bhag koro na," do not fall on deaf ears and finally, everything falls into place.
The storyline might border on the predictable but when you have Dev romancing an almost size zero Subhashree on screen, and that too after two years, can you ask for anything else? The action hero indulges in bharpur romance and tries to deliver a convincing act. In fact, check out the scene where the son and dad share a drink and next he goes to Pooja's place to ask for an apology. Sabyasachi steals the show as a dad craving the company of his son, while Labony as Professor Nandini Roy, is a treat to watch.
Jeet Gannguli's "Mon toke dilam", "Kakhon aibe amar pala re", "Eta ki bhul" and, of course, "Romeo" are climbing up the charts and rightly so. The songs' appeal lies in them being picturized in Cape Town and other cinematic locales and ably matched with Baba Yadav's choreography.
You've seen him deal with the baddies, now, don't miss out the dishy dude in his romantic avatar.
