The wait for the next Shabor film is finally over. Arindam Sil is working on his second film on Shabor titled Eagoler Chokh, which is based on a novel with the same name by Shirshendu Mukhopadhyay .
“When I was planning Byomkesh with Shree Venkatesh Films, Shrikant (Mohta) suggested that I should do Shabor with them. Then we decided on the story and bought the rights of Eagoler Chokh from Shirshenduda,” said Sil.
According to the director, it’s a story of intense sexual relationship, woven together with mystery and suspense. “When I was directing Byomkesh, I was flooded with requests to direct my next Shabor. I love to direct detective stories as it lets a director play with the subject and its treatment. That apart, I am a big fan of Shirshenduda’s writings as there are numerous layers to his stories which I love to explore. Shirshenduda loved the way I made Ebar Shabor and the audi ence’s reaction to the film. So, getting rights for this film wasn’t tough,” smiled Arindam. The film, which will go on the floors on February 19, will be shot in and around Kolkata. While Soumik Halder is the film’s DoP , Padmanabha Dasgupta, along with the director, is penning the script. Music will be scored by Bickram Ghosh.
Shirshendu, who turned 80 on Tuesday , said, “Arindam did a great job with Ebar Shabor and as a writer it feels good when you see that on screen. The story of Eagoler Chokh revolves around the ups and downs of a relationship with a strong thriller element in it.”
Further elaborating on the story , Arindam explained, “It’s an edgy story. A detective story to me is not just a whodunit but something more than that. I try to project that in my films too. I give my audience an opportunity to engage in the process of deduction as much as the prot agonist throughout the investigation of the crime.”
The film revolves around a handsome businessman who’s been sexually exploited since childhood and thus has no affinity for women or sex. At times, when he feels suffocated, he goes on a vacation for a few days with his criminal friends without letting anyone know. There, he indulges in wine and women. After one such visit, he comes back and finds his beautiful wife lying in a pool of blood and her secretaryconfidante shot. The wife goes into coma and that is when Shabor enters to investigate the case and take the story forward.
Other than Saswata Chatterjee playing Shabor and Subhrajit Dutta essaying Nandolal, Shabor’s assistant, the other cast members are yet to be decided. Apart from this, Sil is busy with the post-production work of Har Har Byomkesh, which is set for a December release.
